Customized polymer-based materials for medical equipment applications
Evonik offers a wide range of customized biomaterials for medical equipment and care device applications, including ROHACELL® for patient tables in X-ray and CT scans, VESTAKEEP® PEEK for surgical instruments, RESOMER® polymers for diagnostic devices, VESTAMID® Care ME grades for catheters and tubing, TROGAMID® CX for drug delivery equipment, VESTENAMER® for rubber seals and stoppers, and VESTODUR® for housings.
These materials provide excellent mechanical, chemical, and biocompatible properties, making them ideal for use in demanding medical applications.
Cushioning is an important application for medical equipment that requires biomaterials to provide comfort and protection for patients and caregivers. Biomaterials for cushioning need to have properties such as low density, high resilience, and good shock absorption.
ROHACELL® FOR CUSHIONING APPLICATIONS
ROHACELL® foam is a lightweight and durable material that provides excellent cushioning and shock absorption for medical equipment. ROHACELL® foam is resistant to moisture, chemicals, and temperature changes, and can be easily shaped and processed to fit various requirements. ROHACELL® also reduces radiation exposure when used in patient tables for X-Ray and CT scans.
Its low density and high strength make it an ideal material for cushioning, where patient comfort and safety are of utmost importance. ROHACELL®’s use in stretchers and tables in emergency medicine and specialty tables for therapeutic use highlights its versatility and suitability for cushioning applications.
Diagnostic equipment requires biomaterials to provide accurate and reliable results for patients and doctors. Biomaterials for diagnostic equipment need to have properties such as high transparency, electrical insulation, and chemical resistance, as well as excellent mechanical properties.
ROHACELL® FOR DIAGNOSTIC EQUIPMENT APPLICATIONS
ROHACELL® Foam is a lightweight structural foam that is used as a core material in medical technology. It has high material strength, which allows for a relatively thin core with low density. This results in low-interference X-ray images for optimal diagnosis.
ROHACELL® Foam finds its use in various diagnostic applications, including X-ray tables, CT beds, mammography plates, and other diagnostic equipment. Patient tables for X-ray and CT scans with a structural core made of ROHACELL® help reduce the necessary radiation exposure in diagnostic procedures.
VESTAMID® Care FOR DIAGNOSTIC EQUIPMENT APPLICATIONS
VESTAMID® Care ML grades are the materials of choice for catheters and tubings. Typical areas of application for reinforced VESTAMID® Care ML grades include housing-parts, monitoring and imaging devices and durable medical equipment.
Housings and surgical instruments are two important applications of biomaterials in the medical field. Biomaterials for housings need to provide protection and support for the internal components of medical devices, such as pacemakers, pumps, and sensors. They also need to be biocompatible, durable, and resistant to corrosion.
VESTODUR® polybutylene terephthalate compounds for housing applications
VESTODUR® is a specialty polybutylene terephthalate compound that is easy to process and produces dimensionally stable moldings with low sliding friction. It is suitable for making housings and functional components of inhalers due to its high thermostability, stiffness, strength, low water absorption, hardness, chemical resistance, and good processability.
TROGAMID® Care FOR HOUSING APPLICATIONS
The microcrystalline TROGAMID® Care MX grades exhibit exceptional resistance against chemicals and stress-cracking. As a result, TROGAMID® Care MX is the material of choice for applications dealing with pharmaceutical formulations, lipids or aggressive disinfectants. Examples include dialyzer parts, housings, covers, hearing aids, fluid and drug delivery equipment such as stopcocks and connectors.
VESTAMID® Care FOR HOUSING APPLICATIONS
VESTAMID® Care ML resins are characterized by several outstanding properties, such as high impact and notched impact resistance, dimensional stability, good sliding properties, high abrasion and chemical resistance. Typical areas of application for reinforced VESTAMID® Care ML grades include housing-parts, monitoring and imaging devices and durable medical equipment.
Pharmaceutical equipment requires biomaterials that offer high flexibility, elasticity, impact resistance, and chemical resistance. These biomaterials must ensure the quality, safety, and efficacy of products.
TROGAMID® FOR PHARMACEUTICAL EQUIPMENT APPLICATIONS
TROGAMID® Care MX is the material of choice for applications dealing with pharmaceutical formulations, lipids or aggressive disinfectants, since it exhibits an exceptional resistance towards chemicals and stress-cracking. Examples of applications include fluid and drug delivery equipment such as stop-cocks, dialyzer parts, housings, covers or hearing aids.
Tubings, valves, connectors need to be flexible, kink-resistant, and leak-proof. They also need to have good flow characteristics, low friction, and low hemolysis.
VESTAMID® FOR Tubings, valves, AND connectors
VESTAMID® Care ML resins are characterized by several outstanding properties, such as high impact and notched impact resistance, dimensional stability, good sliding properties, high abrasion and chemical resistance. VESTAMID® Care ML grades are the materials of choice for catheters and tubings.
VESTENAMER® FOR Tubings, valves, AND connectors
VESTENAMER® is a high-performance component for rubber formulations that acts as a reactive plasticizer and compatibilizer for elastomers of different polarity. It improves melt flow, reduces cycle times, and enhances mechanical properties, including surface quality, making it possible to combine typically incompatible materials. It is commonly used in rubber seals and stoppers.
TROGAMID® Care FOR Tubings, valves, AND connectors
TROGAMID® Care can be used in dialyzer parts, housings, covers, hearing aids, fluid and drug delivery equipment such as stopcocks and connectors.
