Wound care
Products with outstanding biocompatibility and biostability for use in wound care
At Evonik, we offer innovative healthcare products based on silicones. For wound healing applications such as sutures and clips, we can provide solutions to accelerate degradation, increase strength and durability, or enhance dimensional stability. Our biomaterials provide increased biocompatibility, hypo allergenicity, flexibility, stability, and bacterial resistance for a diverse range of medical applications.
The properties of biomaterials used in wound dressings are critical to their effectiveness. They must be biocompatible, non-toxic, and able to maintain a moist environment to facilitate healing. Additionally, they must be able to adhere to the wound bed, be easily removed without causing further damage.
epicite® balance wound dressings
Our epicite® balance wound dressings are for acute and chronic wounds, such as burns, ulcers, and surgical wounds. They have excellent moisture management properties, which prevent dehydration and maceration of the wound bed. They also have antimicrobial activity, which prevent infection and promote healing. epicite® balance wound dressings can be customized to deliver drugs or other agents to the wound site, such as analgesics, antibiotics, or growth factors.
Clips are devices that are used to close wounds or incisions by applying pressure to the edges of the skin.
RESOMER® bioresorbable polymers for clip applications
Evonik's RESOMER® biomaterials combine the hydrophobic properties of polylactide (PLA) with the hydrophilic properties of polyethylene glycol (PEG). They can degrade faster than standard PLA polymers and enhance device performance and patient healing for wound closure, pediatric, and other applications.
RESOMER® polymers can reduce the risk of infection and inflammation by dissolving in the body after the wound heals, and eliminate the need for clip removal surgery. They can improve patient comfort and satisfaction by avoiding metal or plastic clips that can irritate the skin or cause allergic reactions.
Sutures are threads or wires that are used to stitch wounds or incisions together. Absorbable sutures dissolve in the body over time, while non-absorbable sutures have to be removed after the wound heals.
RESOMER® bioresorbable polymers for suture applications
Bioresorbable RESOMER® polymers can be used in suture applications. They can degrade faster than standard PLA polymers and enhance device performance and patient healing for wound closure, pediatric, and other applications.
Polymer VS for suture applications
Our Polymer VS addition curing silicones are used in suture applications. They have different viscosity levels and molecular weights, and a very low content of volatile constituents.
VECOLLAN® recombinant & non-animal derived collagen for suture applications
VECOLLAN® is a biosynthetic collagen platform that can be used for various medical applications. Evonik offers VECOLLAN® to create sutures and meshes that can facilitate wound closure and hernia repair. VECOLLAN® sutures can reduce inflammation and scarring.
